Wicca is a recently created, Neopagan religion. Many Wiccans see their religion as a modern reconstruction of ancient Northern European Pagan beliefs such as the Celts and Druids. Depending on ones beliefs wicca can be viewed as monotheistic recognizing a single supreme being, "The One", duotheistic where they may recognize a female god and goddess the Lady and the Lord, polytheistic in which they recognize the existence of many gods and goddesses, or atheist where they do not recognize living entities but symbols rather than a god or goddess. Wicca is not affiliated with Satanic beliefs. Wiccans do not recognize the existence of an all evil anti God. Wicca can be called an earth based religion in that they practice rituals to attune themselves with nature and the phases of the moon as it passes between the sun and earth. Wiccans seek to live in harmony with nature.

Wiccan Law

Many Wiccans adhere to the Three Fold Law which is also known as the Law of Cause and Effect which states in life what we reap we sow what is done shall be returned back three fold. The behavior of Wiccans is governed by The Wiccan Rede which permits Wiccans to engage in any carefully considered action which harms no one including themselves. It is enforced by 'The Three Fold Law'. The Wiccan Credo includes the Wiccan Rede, Wiccan Rule of Behavior and includes the Three Fold Law. Some believe it was written during the very early years of Gardneria Witchcraft by Andria Porter.

Wiccan Holidays

There are 8 Wiccan Holidays often called Sabbats, primarily based on the sun and the earth and the energy created by their relationship to eachother which makes them natural holidays. These dates were important in ancient civilizations like the Celtic ones to help them determine when to plant and harvest crops. The wiccan calendar to mark these holidays is often depicted as a wheel with the months and holidays in a circle. The longest night of the year is called the Winter Solstice on the exact opposite point from that day is the longest day of the year called the Summer Solstice. Between these two holidays there is a day when the hours between sunrise and sunset are exactly equal and this is called the Vertical Equinox and it occurs during the Spring. There is also another day which occurs in the fall which is the hours of night and day are in complete balance and that is called "Autumnal Equinox". These four holidays divide the wheel into four equal sections and are known by Wiccans as the Lesser Sabbats. The other four holidays bisect at the midpoint of the first four and are known as the Greater Sabbats. Between the winter solstice and vernal equinox is Imboic. Between the vernal equinox and summer solstice is Beltane. Between the summer solstice and the autumnal equinox is Lammas. Between the autumnal equinox and the winter solstice is Samhain or Halloween. It is considered to be the most powerful of all of the holidays.

The Wiccan Pentacle is thought to be one of the most important symbols of the religion. It is an ancient symbol bearing much importance to both the East and the West. The pentacle is a five pointed star which clearly defines our place in the universe and life. When the image is drawn or written it is called a pentagram. Many witches and wiccans will wear this on their jewelry or clothing the way many Christians will wear a cross. Traditionally each of the five metaphysical elements of the ancients: Earth, Fire, Water, Air, and Spirit. The Circle often drawn around it represents Divine Wisdom given to the wearer. It is recognized throughout the world. In the Jewish tradition for instance, it symbolizes the five books of Moses.
