Tai Chi
As life gets more stressful and hectic, people are trying harder and harder to find a way for them to relax that isn’t going to make them sore.
Tai Chi is an Americanized version of the Chinese Tai Chi Chuan, meaning Supreme Ultimate Force. Tai Chi is said to be the most concentrated form of
meditation and yoga there is today. It combines meditation, controlling breathing, and stretching into a workout that can be done every day, every
other day, or only a couple times a week and still have a great affect on one’s body and mind. Tai Chi is nearly seven centuries old, and has been practiced
through the years as both an exercise and a form of defense.
Chinese Tai Chi
In traditional Chinese Tai Chi, there are the long form and the short form. The long form consists of nearly one hundred ten positions, whereas the short form consists of just less than forty. The stretches are believed to be able to help relieve pain and stress by forcing the negative energy out and replacing it with positive energies. There are classes and groups that get together anywhere from every day to three times a week, and their main focus is to teach how to do Tai Chi properly so that the quality and longevity of life becomes greater than average. Those who practice a healthy lifestyle and practice Tai Chi can add a few, more easily walking, years to their life.Tai Chi is not just for those who are suffering from the aches and pains of stiff joints and muscles, it is also for those who simply want a nice way to relax and tone their body. Meditation is a big part of Tai Chi. Most Tai Chi masters will advise a person to do Tai Chi in a quiet area of their home or in a park where there is not a lot of noise to disturb the meditation required to do some of the poses. Clearing the mind and the body of negative energies will help a person to relax and to be able to sleep peacefully at night.
While Tai Chi is a mostly peaceful martial art, it can be used in self defense if needed. All a person needs to do in that kind of situation is add some force to some of the poses. There is a form of combative Tai Chi, but it focuses more on defensive and offensive stances. Breathing is also a big part of Tai Chi, as controlling the breathing will help a person be able to hold the poses for longer. Children, teenagers, and adults are finding Tai Chi as a way to help keep them fit, while families are finding it a way to spend quality time together away from the television. There are different ways to learn Tai Chi. There are classes and schools that teach all forms of Tai Chi and for those who wish to stay in the comfort of their own home, there are downloadable versions of teaching instructions and DVD’s.
