Major Arcana
The Major Arcana, which is also known at the trump suit is the main ingredient of the Tarot. The Major Arcana contains twenty-two picture cards. These picture cards each have a meaning that is both mysterious and complex and are often used as a spiritual guide for self enlightenment or for fortune telling.
- Trumps One - "The Magician" - represents human intelligence and worldly wisdom.
- Trumps Two - "The High Priestess" - represents divine wisdom and enlightenment.
- Trumps Three - "The Empress" - represents the mother, procreation, and domestic harmony for society.
- Trumps Four - "The Emperor" - represents the father, worldly power and protection of the people that he is responsible for.
- Trumps Five - "The High Priest" - represents divine will, interpretation of the Law of God concerning personal and social codes of behavior.
- Trumps Six - "The Lovers" - represents union of opposites and commitment.
- Trumps Seven - "The Chariot" - represents victory, mastery of opposing forces by decision and strength of will.
- Trumps Eight - "Justice" - represents impartial and unbiased justice with strict fairness.
- Trumps Nine - "The Hermit" - represents self-examination. A Vision quest.
- Trumps Ten - "The Wheel of Fortune" - represents chance and blind fate. A situation over which you have no control.
- Trumps Eleven - "Strength" - represents overcoming obstacles. Spiritual strength and force of will.
- Trumps Twelve - "The Hanged Man" - represents self-sacrifice, with the object of attaining wisdom, special insights, or personal growth.
- Trumps Thirteen - "Death" - represents abrupt change; an end to things as they are or were.
- Trumps Fourteen - "Temperance" - represents patience, self-control and willingness to learn understanding.
- Trumps Fifteen - "The Devil" - represents the struggle between the supreme good and the supreme evil. A choice or conflict between order and chaos.
- Trumps Sixteen - "The Falling Tower" - represents a setback in your life. Plans get ruined or a disaster occurs due to your own misuse of power or divine gifts.
- Trumps Seventeen - "The Star" - represents wisdom, immortality, accomplishment of your goals, generosity and understanding.
- Trumps Eighteen - "The Moon" - represents mystery, intuition, psychic ability, deception and danger.
- Trumps Nineteen - "The Sun" - represents happiness, contentment and success. Gifts are received.
- Trumps Twenty - "Judgement" -represents that final decisions are made, a new life beginning, outcomes and conclusions of events occur. You questions will be answered.
- Trumps Twenty One - "The World" - represents perfection and attainment. Goals are going to be reached.
- Trumps Zero - "The Fool" - represents unavoidable mistakes due to your own ignorance.
Depending on the Major Arcana deck being used, you will often find that the representations of each of the pictures on the cards will be different.
