Magnetic healing is the belief that a magnet has healing powers and the stronger the magnet, the stronger the healing power it possesses. Magnets have been used for a couple thousand years for healing and maintaining health; however, only five centuries ago did someone finally point out that it could actually be true. Magnetic healing started to dwindle during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries but has made a come back. Magnets are believed to be able to help heal soft tissue damage and ligament injuries. While the medical community is still not sure about magnets having actual healing powers, they are open to suggestions that magnets help with swelling and pain that relate to ligament and soft tissue damage.

While magnets are only believed to heal soft tissue damage, it’s been proven that wearing a knee or other joint brace with a magnet in it will help reduce swelling and joint pain. One thing to know, however, is that not all magnetic forces are healing. The sun, moon and earth all have magnetic forces; however, these do not help a person’s injuries to heal. In fact, the magnetic force of the earth can make injuries more painful due to the forces of gravity on that person. In order for magnetic healing to occur, the magnets on either side of the joint need to be the same, or it can cause serious pain and injury depending on the magnet strength.

Knee, ankle, wrist, elbow and shoulder braces today are being made and marketed with magnets strategically placed within them. These braces are to help keep the joint stable while helping to take care of swelling and pain when moved. The magnets that are placed within these neoprene joint braces are small and thin, able to be bent without breaking or small pieces throughout the brace itself. These magnets are sewn into the material and are not noticeable to those who are looking at the brace while being worn.

Joint braces are not the only things that are being sold with magnetic abilities. The bracelet and necklace market has begun to sell jewelry with magnets on them. The jewelry is stylish so it will fit with any outfit and the magnets that are attached are meant to look like decorative pieces on the jewelry. The bracelets are sold to help with the pain and swelling associated with arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome. The necklaces are said to help with chronic neck problems such as stiffness and muscle spasms.

Whether the choice is an obtrusive brace or the ever stylish jewelry, magnets have been proven to help in the quality of life. For those who suffer from chronic pain and stiffness, using magnets can be a way to finding relief. However, just like any other form of alternative therapy, before starting the use of magnetic therapy, one should consult their physician or a specialist in order to find the right strength of magnet for them. Magnets will help control swelling, reduce pain, and make for an easier life.
