Mariska Hargitay, is the stunningly beautiful star who portrays detective Olivia Benson in the hit NBC television show Law and Order Special Victims Unit, Mariska Hargitay, was born January 23, 1964 in Los Angeles, California. She is the youngest daughter of screen legend, Jayne Mansfield and former Mr. Universe, Mickey Hargitay.
She is a graduate of UCLA who speaks Hungarian French and Italian. Ms. Hargitay is also a certified rape crisis counselor.
Long considered a great actress who never got her shot at the big time, Mariska gained recognition when she portrayed Dr. Greene's ditsy girlfriend on ER, Cynthia Hooper. Other television appearances include Falcon Crest, Prince Street, Seinfeld, Ellen, Thirtysomething and WiseGuy. Her film credits include Lake Placid, Leaving Las Vegas, Hotel Room and Star 80. She has been a star of Law & Order SVU since the series began, and has also appeared on the stage.
While she won a Golden Globe Award in 2005 for her dramatic ability, she claims her true calling is comedy.
