Shaquille O'Neil
Shaquille O'Neil is one of the most recognizable, physically dominant figures in the National Basketball League for the past 12 years is the center for the Miami Heat, Shaquille O'Neal.. Born March 6, 1972 in Newark, New Jersey, this giant of the sport has been the penultimate basketball star ever since he burst on the professional scene. His given name, Shaquille Raushan, means "Little Warrior" in Islam.
No slacker in high school or college either, he left Louisiana State University in 1992 after his junior year to enter the professional ranks. His first professional team was the Orlando Magic, followed by the Los Angeles Lakers where he led the team to three National Basketball championships. He was also the Rookie of the Year in 1993 and achieved the Olympic Gold Medal with the United States Basketball Team in 1996. He was the youngest person named as one of the 50 greatest players in National Basketball History.
Whether or not you are a fan of professional basketball, you would have to have been stranded on a deserted island for the past ten years not to recognize the name Shaquille O'Neal.
