Tom Cruise, one of Hollywood's highest paid stars, he is earning 20% of the profits from the current summer movie, "War of the Worlds", Tom Cruise was born Thomas Cruise Mapother IV on July 3, 1962 in Syracuse, New York. He graduated from Glen Ridge High School in New Jersey in 1980, and before going into acting he attended a Franciscan seminary and aspired to join the Catholic priesthood. After high school, Cruise studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City.
Cruise made his film debut in 1981 in the film, Endless Love. He has received Academy Award nominations for Born on the Fourth of July and Jerry McGuire. People magazine listed him as one of the 50 most beautiful people in 1990, 1991 and 1997. Cruise is also considered to be one of the top 100 movie stars of all time.
Tom Cruise is an outspoken member of the Church of Scientology, which he credits for helping him overcome his problems including dyslexia. He will not allow his likeness to be used in video games or for action figures.
On a personal note, Cruise has been married twice to actresses Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman, with whom he adopted two children, Isabella and Connor. Cruise is currently engaged to actress Katie Holmes.
