Celtic Cross
The Celtic Cross came into existence when a combination of the linear cross and the Chi-Rho cross was designed with more ornaments like multiple lines. The Celtic cross is also one of the oldest and most popular patterns used today for designing tarot cards. The Celtic cross layout is very simple but is also very powerful. It is believed to be the most powerful because of the energy that has been around it by so many people using this layout.

The Celtic cross is divided into two sections; the circle/cross with six cards on the left and the staff being four cards on the right. The circle/cross simulates the Celtic cross that is seen all over Ireland. The circle of the cross links the four perpendicular spokes. The combination of the circle and the cross are a symbol of joining the spirit, matter, and unity of all of the events of time.
The circular section is the feminine energy and the staff section is the masculine parts of the Celtic cross. These two parts mirror the dual nature of the manifested reality. The circle/cross is made with two crosses. The central one has two cards where the larger cross has 6 cards. The smaller cross represents the heart and is at the center of your reading. This is what your entire life is based around at the time of the reading. The larger cross has two lines that overlay the smaller cross. This line that crosses horizontally shows your past on the left and your future on the right. The vertical line shows your consciousness. These six cards give you an idea of your inner and outer atmosphere at the time of the reading.
The staff section of the celtic cross comments on your life that lies just outside your immediate situation. It helps with understanding which way you need to proceed.
